Kid Rock Launches Campaign Website, Hints At A Run For Senate!

It appears that the era of the celebrity politician is here to stay. It started with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura, and Al Franken; now, with Donald Trump having been elected president, the door seems to be open to any celebrity to run for office. And now Kid Rock appears to be the next in line to try to segue an entertainment career into a political one.

It started Wednesday afternoon, when Kid Rock tweeted out a cryptic message teasing an “announcement” he would be making soon.

Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Richie, had been rumored to possibly be considering a Senate run during the Michigan state Republican Party convention in February. If he does choose to run, he would be taking on Democrat Debbie Stabenow, who has held the Senate seat since 2000, and won reelection in 2012 with 58% of the vote. Yet Trump won Michigan last November in the general election, possibly signifying that voters might be leaning more Republican. The campaign website is sparse for now, featuring a lone picture of Kid Rock, captioned “Are You Scared?”, and themed merchandise.

No information is included about potential policies or his plans should he be elected, but past statements could give voters some clues as to where he stands. He has described himself as libertarian, campaigned for Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election, and endorsed Donald Trump in the 2016 election. He told “Rolling Stone” that it was Trump’s business acumen that made him support Trump, saying, “My feeling: Let the motherf—king business guy run it like a f—king business.”

Would you support Kid Rock if he ran for Senate?
